Myself and surfing
Sometimes I ask myself - why after almost 35 years of involvement in this activity am I still addicted? Why can I not pass by a magazine stand unaffected - why do small perfectly formed ripples still have the power to move my imagination - why are weather maps always scrutinized leaving me filled with anticipation or disappointment. I guess the only answer to this is simply because I am a Surfer. But that's a little too superficial for my liking. I am one of those, I believe, lucky souls whom has found completeness in an experience that most can only wonder about - the total joy and elation felt when moving/dancing across and through a liquid medium - a medium with a life force all of its own - the Ocean - with its power to humble, humiliate and even take life, conversly offers up to those initiated, skilled and aware enough the gifts of excitement, good health, wonder, often bliss, and to the fortunate, transcendent experiences that remain indelibly etched for a lifetime - this, I believe, is the reason why I am still committed.
