Just south of Hahei Beach lies this indented stretch of coastline with sheer cliffs rising dramatically above the sea. On this particular day, the light lit up the scene and gave it a mediterranean look of colour and clarity.

Based on one of my sister’s old photographs of her friend proudly posing with her boyfriend’s surfboard – again typifying the freedom and good times during the holiday period at the beach.

The companion print to ’60’s surf seekers’ – this montage of images reflects on the ‘evolution’ in the water and out of it of this freedom-loving sub-culture immersed in journeys of personal and collective discovery.
